Hull Guide:
Hull, also known as Kingston upon Hull, is located in Yorkshire. Despite it suffering heavily during the Second World War, the architecture that remains is glorious in all respects, from merchant houses to dock offices to heritage warehouses.
Things to see and do in Hull
Visit the Ferens Art Gallery which costs nothing and gives you a great experience of the medieval area up to today through sculptures and paintings. There are also some temporary international exhibitions to keep things interesting as well as modern British art.
Another great experience is a visit to the Maritime Museum, which was previously known as the Whaling Museum. It is located in the Dock offices for the Princes Dock. The building itself is rather big and conventional, with its purpose being a tribute to the conquest of the High Seas by Hull as much was sacrificed to do so.
Hull City Hall dates back to 1903, and is one of the most popular buildings in the city. It is central to many events held in Hull, mostly musical in nature such as rock and pop concerts, but other events such as comedy nights are also hosted here.
A beautiful spot are the Queens Gardens, which were opened in 1930 and are located over the Queens Dock which is the greatest in size in the country. On the one hand you can view the brilliant Wilberforce Monument and on the other hand, the Maritime Museum can be seen. The gardens are most enjoyable and definitely loved by families in particular, with their well looked after flowerbeds, seating area as well as large patches of grassland.
A trip to the Trinity Quarter is essential in the city. Located around the old market square, this is one of the central parts of the city centre where you can exclusively find the likes of vintage clothes, alternative retailers as well as record shops. Much has been done to restore the area and now it contains adequate seating as well as public art.
